PEACE
NO MORE WAR
Solo Exhibition by Antonio Hyeok Lee

War has always existed in human history. Through my work, I build drama to destroy the construction of war. Although I may appear to be powerless, by working with the theme of war, I am able to consider it more seriously and work towards eliminating war. This is better than being ignorant or hiding in fear of it. I have a duty to say NO MORE WAR so that I can build a peaceful world as an artist.

War is chaotic. As an artist, I work to creatively engage the public with themes of war and help them respond more than they do now. My works allow the viewer to engage with these themes as my creations contain subtle playfulness along with a moderate tempo. This is a good way to create open dialogue around war, disaster or chaos. When creating my pieces, if I talk around the subject, I can create more thought-provoking works than if I speak directly. I do not present scenes explicitly describing war; my works do not contain images that are necessarily terrifying, and yet the message behind the works is still quite clear.

The circumstance of war is tense and fast. Using a slow tempo of sounds or images, however, I can make people think more carefully and seriously about war. By creating artwork with a slow tempo, a synergy emerges with the main image in the works. The works become unpredictable stories while the synergy helps captivate the viewer and leave a lasting memory.

Through my artwork, I interpret an invisible threat of war, a reality that I have seen and felt. I represent the madness of violence by creating visual works without words. The works convey interpretations of my concerns for the future.
