"Lately I have been thinking about history, about whose stories are told, and how women’s stories are often absent from the version of history we are taught. I wanted to do something to change that, but I have absolutely no interest or talent in historical research.
So I started thinking about my own personal history, about the women who have made a difference in my life.
Have you ever noticed how when a particular song comes on the radio it can transport you back in time with such intensity that you can smell it, taste it, feel it?
We each have a collection of songs that become the soundtrack to our lives. This collection is as unique as your fingerprint, and it tells the story of you. I wanted to tell a story with these paintings about the lives of Canadian women, about my life. Each song has moved me, inspired me, made me dance, made me cry. These songs have carried me through hard times and helped me celebrate joyous times. They have become inextricable interwoven with my memories, part of the fabric of my life."
"This collection is my love letter to the women of Canadian music. May they continue to touch our hearts with their voices, and may they know that their talent and hard work has made a difference."
